I like everything about this movie but this movie.

I've owned the soundtrack to this movie for a few years and really like it. Because of that, and because I've been learning French, this seemed like a perfect movie to watch this Shocktober.

I didn't really like it but am very interested in watching another Claire Denis film at some point because this movie makes me fairly sure that she is an incredibly capable director and that the praise I've heard is legit.

Unsurprisingly, I liked the soundtrack a lot (and thought it was used to good effect). I liked the acting. I liked the camerawork (especially a lot of the framing done at the hotel at the beginning of the film). I liked how silence was used (I think there's literally no dialogue within the first fifteen minutes, and barely any within the first half hour).

Unfortunately, I didn't like the story and the rest of that wasn't enough to save this for me.

Anyway, I guess I'll watch White Material or 35 Rhums at some point.
