|X was the real Y||It turns out that man is the real Yongary, monster from the deep.|
I was tired and wanted a movie where I wouldn't need to think at all. This Korean kaiju film hit the spot. This isn't a genre I've watched a lot of, so I can't really comment on how this movie compares.
This movie has your standard Middle East does nuclear test, giant monster appears from the deep, boy shoots itch-ray at giant monster, boy empathizes with now-defeated monster. The main character was also an astronaut—I'm not actually sure what that had to do with the plot.
The best scene in the movie was probably a 10-second dance scene in the middle that didn't directly tie into the plot.
I'm not really sure of the context in which I would recommend this movie. There are better horror movies, and better horror movies on archive.org (PS if you aren't aware, archive.org has a big collection of public domain horror movies and some of them are classics).
